• 4DMedical secures a three-year commercial agreement with SimonMed Imaging
• SimonMed operates more than 170 imaging centres across 10 US states
• CT:VQ™ and LDAf™ technologies to be deployed on commercial terms from day one
• Partnership supports reimbursement evidence development with insurers and Medicare-linked payors
Medical imaging company 4DMedical (ASX: 4DX) has taken another step in its US expansion strategy, signing a commercial agreement with SimonMed Imaging, one of America’s largest outpatient diagnostic imaging providers.
The deal will see 4DMedical’s CT:VQ™ and LDAf™ software rolled out across SimonMed’s network of more than 170 imaging centres spanning 10 states, marking the company’s first major entry into the high-volume outpatient imaging market.
Shares in 4DMedical climbed 12.28% to $3.75 on Friday morning, valuing the company at approximately $2.24 billion.

The agreement arrives during a period of accelerating momentum for the Melbourne-based healthcare technology company. In recent months, 4DMedical secured UK regulatory clearance, expanded its relationship with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, achieved inclusion in the S&P/ASX 200 Index, and published clinical validation data supporting its respiratory imaging platform.
Friday’s announcement shifts attention from clinical validation towards commercial deployment.
Unlike traditional lung function testing, CT:VQ™ extracts detailed ventilation and perfusion information directly from standard CT scans, providing physicians with a more comprehensive view of lung performance without requiring additional contrast agents or specialised nuclear medicine procedures.
For patients with respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary vascular disease and other cardiopulmonary disorders, the technology aims to provide more objective information from imaging that many patients are already receiving.
The significance of the SimonMed partnership lies as much in the distribution network as the technology itself.
Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Arizona, SimonMed has built one of the largest physician-led radiology networks in the United States, supported by more than 300 radiologists. The company is known for adopting new technologies only after extensive validation, making the decision to proceed directly to commercial deployment noteworthy.
Under the three-year agreement, SimonMed will integrate 4DMedical’s software into existing imaging workflows and support the development of reimbursement evidence by sharing insurance and claims data across its network.
That reimbursement pathway remains one of the most closely watched issues for emerging medical technologies in the United States.
While many healthcare innovations demonstrate strong clinical performance, widespread adoption often depends on securing consistent reimbursement from public and private insurers. The SimonMed partnership provides 4DMedical with access to a large volume of real-world clinical data that may help strengthen discussions with payors.
SimonMed Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer Dr Sean Raj said the technology could unlock more value from routine imaging.
“Innovation has always been central to SimonMed’s mission of bringing advanced imaging technologies to communities across the country,” Dr Raj said.
“4DMedical’s technology is an exciting example of how we can transform routine imaging into a far more quantitative and clinically actionable tool.”
“By extracting functional cardiopulmonary information directly from standard CT scans without additional contrast or nuclear medicine studies, we believe this technology has the potential to help physicians identify diseases that affect millions of patients, including asthma and COPD, earlier, stratify risk more precisely, and ultimately support more personalized care and better outcomes for patients.”
For 4DMedical, the agreement broadens its reach beyond major academic hospitals and into community-based imaging centres where patient volumes are often significantly higher.
Managing Director and founder Andreas Fouras described the agreement as a major commercial milestone.
“SimonMed is one of the largest and most influential outpatient imaging providers in the United States. Their decision to adopt CT:VQ™, moving directly to commercial deployment, is a major milestone for 4DMedical and a strong validation of both our technology and our clinical value,” Mr Fouras said.
“We have unstoppable momentum in the U.S., and this partnership only strengthens that trajectory. It will drive revenue growth while reinforcing our confidence in reimbursement for CT:VQ™.”
The agreement is not expected to be immediately financially material, but it gives 4DMedical exposure to one of the fastest-growing segments of the US healthcare system.
Healthcare providers across the United States have increasingly shifted diagnostic services away from higher-cost hospital settings and towards outpatient imaging centres. Industry analysts have identified this trend as one of the key structural changes reshaping medical imaging over the past decade.
For 4DMedical, the opportunity now moves beyond access and towards utilisation.
The technology has secured a seat inside one of America’s largest imaging networks. The next chapter will depend on how frequently radiologists, referring physicians and healthcare providers incorporate the software into everyday clinical practice.
