Uranium Discovery Grows: Alligator Energy (ASX: AGE) Extends Blackbush Trend on New Ground

SN Team | For illustration purposes only

Key Highlights

  • Uranium mineralisation extended 600 metres south of the Blackbush deposit onto newly secured ground.
  • Strong drill results include 5.0m at 1,299ppm eU₃O₈ and 2.4m at 2,025ppm eU₃O₈.
  • Blackbush resource drilling is confirming the existing geological model ahead of the Samphire Feasibility Study.
  • Infill drilling has restarted at Plumbush for the first time since 2011 to upgrade resources.
  • Two drill rigs are operating continuously, with an updated resource estimate targeted for Q1/Q2 2027.

Australia’s uranium sector has enjoyed a strong run over the past year, but for developers hoping to move from exploration to production, the focus eventually shifts from finding new mineralisation to proving a project can support a future mine.

Market Snapshot

That is the transition Alligator Energy (ASX: AGE) is now working through at its Samphire Uranium Project in South Australia.

The company announced that drilling has extended uranium mineralisation 600 metres south of the known Blackbush deposit onto the recently secured Mullaquana Crown Lease, while simultaneously advancing resource definition work at Blackbush and restarting drilling at the nearby Plumbush deposit.

Rather than relying on a single standout drill hole, the latest update reflects progress across three parallel workstreams that all support the project’s ongoing Feasibility Study.

Among the strongest new intercepts were 5.0 metres grading 1,299ppm equivalent U₃O₈, 2.4 metres at 2,025ppm eU₃O₈, 3.2 metres at 1,189ppm eU₃O₈, and 4.3 metres at 1,123ppm eU₃O₈ from the newly identified southern extension.

The results suggest the Blackbush mineralised trend continues beyond the current resource boundary and remains open for further exploration.

The extension is particularly significant because the area only became accessible after Alligator secured a call option over the Mullaquana Crown Lease in late June. Within weeks of obtaining access, the company had two drill rigs operating on site, highlighting the speed at which it is pursuing resource growth.

Beyond extending the deposit, Alligator has completed 108 closely spaced delineation holes inside the existing Blackbush resource area.

While these holes may lack the excitement of a new discovery, they perform an equally important role. Their consistency with the existing geological model provides greater confidence in mine planning and supports the technical work required for a future development decision.

At the same time, drilling has resumed at Plumbush for the first time since 2011. The objective is to upgrade its current Inferred Mineral Resource into the higher-confidence Indicated category, a key step because Indicated resources are typically required for inclusion in bankable feasibility studies.

The latest drilling follows another milestone announced in June, when Alligator increased the Samphire resource by 67% to 30 million pounds of U₃O₈, largely through the addition of the Plumbush resource. The current campaign is designed to build on that growth while improving confidence in the project’s overall resource base.

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Dr Andrea Marsland-Smith said the early results validate the company’s recent land acquisition strategy.

“These early results are an encouraging start to our Samphire growth program and demonstrate the strategic importance of securing access to the Mullaquana Crown Lease. Intersecting uranium mineralisation approximately 600 metres further south of previous drilling expands the area available for systematic evaluation, while the closer-spaced work within Plumbush is strengthening the geological dataset for the Feasibility Study. The team has moved quickly from securing access to having two rigs operating to advance this program at pace.”

The broader uranium market continues to provide a supportive backdrop. Growing interest in nuclear energy as countries seek reliable low-carbon electricity has increased demand for future uranium supply. The International Energy Agency and the World Nuclear Association have both highlighted nuclear power’s expanding role in energy security and decarbonisation, supporting renewed investment across the uranium sector.

Alligator has been one of the stronger performers during that trend, with its shares delivering a 128% return over the past year. On Tuesday, however, the market reaction was relatively subdued, with the stock trading around $0.053, up just under 1%. The muted response suggests the market had already anticipated steady progress from the company’s well-flagged growth program.

There are still hurdles ahead. The reported grades are based on downhole gamma-derived equivalent uranium values (eU₃O₈) rather than laboratory chemical assays, and the updated Blackbush resource estimate is not expected until Q1/Q2 2027.

Even so, the latest results demonstrate that Alligator is no longer simply searching for uranium. It is steadily building the geological confidence needed to convert a growing resource into a potential future mining operation.
