Pro Medicus deepens its footprint across US healthcare networks

Healthcare imaging software specialist Pro Medicus (ASX: PME) started June with another reminder of why it remains one of Australia’s most closely watched technology success stories.

The company announced two significant contract wins across the United States on Monday, adding A$44 million in combined contract value while extending its reach beyond its traditional radiology stronghold.

The announcements helped lift Pro Medicus shares 8.48% to A$143.48 by midday, valuing the Melbourne-based software company at nearly A$15 billion.

One agreement strengthens a relationship that has already lasted more than a decade. The other opens a new chapter in the company’s push into broader enterprise imaging.

Allegheny renewal highlights pricing power

The larger of the two deals is a five-year, A$28 million contract renewal with Allegheny Health Network (AHN), one of the major healthcare systems in the Pittsburgh region.

AHN operates 14 hospitals, more than 2,500 beds and over 300 clinical locations across Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia.

The renewal marks the third contract term between the organisations, extending a partnership that has now surpassed ten years.

The agreement includes increased minimum transaction commitments and higher fees per transaction, alongside the addition of Pro Medicus’ Visage 7 Workflow product.

In the enterprise software industry, mature renewals often become a test of customer satisfaction and competitive pressure. Pro Medicus appears to be experiencing the opposite dynamic, expanding its product footprint while securing improved commercial terms.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Sam Hupert said: “AHN has now renewed for a third contract term, reflecting the strength of our long-standing partnership and the value our platform continues to deliver across their organisation. This underpins our belief that our solution provides unparalleled return on investment from both a financial and a clinical perspective.”

The deal brings Pro Medicus’ total renewal value signed during the current financial year to A$125 million.

TidalHealth points to a broader growth runway

While the AHN renewal demonstrates customer retention, the second announcement offers insight into where the company sees future expansion.

TidalHealth has signed a seven-year agreement worth A$16 million to deploy the Visage 7 Full Stack platform, including its cardiology imaging solution.

The healthcare provider operates three hospitals serving communities across Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

Pro Medicus built its reputation in radiology imaging, but hospitals are increasingly looking to consolidate multiple imaging systems into a single cloud-based platform. That trend is creating opportunities well beyond radiology departments.

The TidalHealth agreement includes Visage Viewer, Workflow, Open Archive and Cardiology Imaging, creating a unified imaging environment across clinical specialties.

Planning work will begin immediately, with implementation targeted for the first quarter of calendar year 2027.

Dr Hupert said: “Notably, they have also opted for our cardiology offering, which will provide TidalHealth with a truly unified enterprise imaging solution, a trend we see continuing as more and more healthcare enterprises look to consolidate their disparate imaging systems. Our pipeline remains strong and spans all market segments.”

Cloud migration continues to reshape healthcare IT

The latest contracts arrive as healthcare providers across North America accelerate cloud migration strategies.

Hospitals are facing growing pressure to manage rising imaging volumes while reducing infrastructure costs and improving access to patient data across departments.

Enterprise imaging has become a major battleground for healthcare technology vendors including Sectra, Philips and GE HealthCare. Pro Medicus has carved out a reputation by focusing on speed, cloud-native architecture and transaction-based pricing.

Monday’s announcements suggest that strategy continues to resonate with large healthcare networks.

One contract reinforces a decade-long customer relationship. The other broadens adoption into new clinical disciplines.

Together, they highlight how Pro Medicus is expanding both the depth and breadth of its platform across the US healthcare market, a market that remains the company’s primary growth engine.
